Its counterpart

Bilahari is closely related to Deshkar in the Hindustani tradition. The two share a scale and much of their mood, though the treatment and ornamentation differ.

How it is traditionally used

Listen at morning, when the raga's hour and your own state line up. Give it your attention rather than treating it as background sound: the tradition holds that a raga works on the mind through sustained listening, not ambience. Ten to twenty minutes is enough to feel the shift. It is pointed to for courage, happiness, energy.
